Project Info

DMG Radio have launched Smooth FM (the newest radio brand in Australia) with a re-sing of the award winning Magic 105.4 jingle package from Music 4.

"A major launch of a new radio brand is incredibly exciting, not just for DMG Radio Australia but for the whole industry. It underlines the vibrancy of commercial radio across the country and its importance in our lives. We've identified a gap in the market for a music position that is unique in the Sydney and Melbourne radio landscape and we're confident that listeners will embrace Smooth FM," DMG Radio Australia's CEO, Cathy O'Connor said.

Recorded at Music 4 and at Abbey Road Studios in London, Music 4's Sony Award winning jingles for Magic 105.4 are slowly making their way around the world.

Smooth 91.5 broadcasts to Melbourne.

Client Info

Smooth is a network of two Australian commercial radio stations operated by DMG Radio Australia, one in Sydney, the other Melbourne.

Smooth was previously known as 95.3FM, 91.5FM, Classic Rock and Vega, which was a sister station to DMG's other Australian radio network Nova. Vega launched in 2005 to target the baby boomer market of listeners in the 40 to 60 age bracket, with a mix of talk and music from the 1960s to the 2000s.

Consistently low ratings led to DMG's decision to rebrand Vega as 'Classic Rock' and relaunch it on Friday 12 March, 2010 as a competitor to similar stations Gold 104.3, Classic Hits WSFM and Triple M. DMG Radio Australia announced the change to Vega's brand as the stations had struggled towards the bottom of the ratings ladder in both Sydney and Melbourne. In building these new stations DMG needed a "simple, focused music concept that would appeal to the 35-54 audience," according to CEO Cathy O'Connor. The two stations now focus on smooth, easy listening with the stations now called Smooth 95.3 & Smooth 91.5.
